The weekend guide: SE London (part two)

Sorry for the break in service but here's the rest of what's on offer in the south east this weekend.

WEST NORWOOD FEAST
Around Norwood High Street, SE27
Sunday 10am-4pm (first Sunday of every month)

Space Makers, the driving force behind the regeneration of Brixton Village, have been weaving a little of their market magic in West Norwood for a few months now. Some friends have been a couple of times and say it's small and friendly and getting better every time they go.

Perhaps this Sunday's Big Lunch event will attract big crowds (if the weather holds off). It sounds like a good excuse to bring a feast, subsidised with a smattering of delicious eats from the stalls at the market, get out your favourite picnic rug, round up your friends and something suitably summery to drink, be it Pimm's or elderflower cordial, and join the picnic from 1pm.

I for one will be having a good nose around the Retro Village. On the WNF blog, they're calling out for people to bring their skills to the market, which I think is a great idea. Furniture restorers, live vintage music and retro hairdressers would definitely give the area a point of difference from London's many other retro destinations. Don't get me wrong, I love all that stuff, but sometimes I think if I see another enamel bread bin, I may just do someone a damage.

CHOUMERT SQUARE OPEN DAY*
Choumert Square, Peckham SE15
Sunday 1-6pm

In the increasingly chi-chi Bellenden area of Peckham you'll find a bunch of country cottages with a residents' garden that they throw open to the public every year. I've always managed to miss the event but it seems to have grown and grown so I'll be heading down this year for what looks set to be an urban village fete affair. The promise of afternoon teas and a gourmet tombola is good to miss.

*Part of the National Gardens Scheme, where gardens open for charity
